More driving

After breakfast this morning we left the hotel at 9:30am and went back on the road. We stayed on I-95 for a while until we decided to bypass all the big cities (Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia, New York City) and go further west instead. So we went to 522 just before getting to Richmond, VA to cut over to I-81. 522 is a beautiful road through the Virginia countryside, we drove through many cute and picturesque towns. Culpepper was one of the prettiest of all the towns. Even though the road took us through the countryside and off the Interstate, we saved time by using this shortcut. Both Jan and I really enjoyed this detour! Most of the time we didn't have cell phone reception, there were lots of cows and horses to see, and a very dirty restroom to survive - but again: nothing really interesting happened! When we got to Winchester, VA we checked into the hotel and then took the recommendation of the desk clerk and drove to an italian restaurant for dinner. La Cantina d'Italia is a great restaurant and Jan and I had an excellent dinner. Now we're back in the hotel, relaxing and knitting and watching TV. Tomorrow is another day of driving, then the actual vacation will start!
