A Lazy Sunday

Jan, Janis and I went out this morning to have a late breakfast at the "Cape Cup" in Chatham. After that we made our way over to Orleans where we wanted to see the gift shop at "The Community of Jesus" church. Janis had been there before and apparently the congregation makes and sells all kinds of goods, handmade candles and things. We all like handmade items, so we thought it would be a great place to see. Since we already knew that the locals are very suspicious of these weird newcomers and their church (it's probably a sect!) :) we weren't surprised that the man we asked for directions could barely point to the church and tell us "it's on the other road" before he walked away. We were amused by his reaction. We should have taken him to the church and made him today's offering on the altar - 'cause sects do that, don't they? The church gift shop was closed (maybe the fact that today is Sunday had something to do with it?), but we'll go back to the gift shop some other day. In the parking lot where we asked the man for directions was this cute shop:

I think there is a law in New England about the cuteness-factor of buildings. If it's not cute and people wouldn't want to take a picture of it, you can't build it!

Aparently, this law also applies to stores. There is a carillion at the little strip mall, and yes, the building is cute:

We then drove back to Chatham, but made a stop at the "Antique & Unusual Plant Containers" shop first.

The shop itself didn't interest me that much, but the gardens were beautiful. I'm sure it looked a lot better in summer, but even now it is soooo beautiful!

Some of the roses are still in bloom and they smell wonderful. I actually went back there before we left to smell them again.

We left Brewster and drove back to Chatham, where we had an early dinner at the "Squire". Scrod again, but it is so good, there is no reason not to eat it twice. After dinner we walked over to the ice cream shop where we had dessert. It started to rain just a little on our way there and there was more rain on the way back to Janis' house. At her house there was no rain, but the temperature had fallen to 62 degrees (according to Jan's car). Jan and I knit for a while and then I went upstairs to "my" bedroom. I have not finished my Pastaza vest yet, but only have one sleeve left to knit. There just wasn't much time to knit until today. At some point tonight, Janis turned on the heat in the house, so I think the temperatures dropped more. So far I have enjoyed the weather, but tomorrow we expect rain and I think I might even wear a light jacket if we go out.
