October 22, 2008

I did not realize before now, how expensive senior year in High School is. Good grief, I might as well just hand out $100 bills left and right and get it over with! First there were the "official" senior pictures, then all the College applications, now it's time for the announcements, class ring, cap and gown, and we're approaching $1000 ! ! ! And I'm not even sure there isn't something else I forgot or will be told about at a later date. Argh! I knew it would be hard to send your only child to College, but I didn't think we would be broke BEFORE we even send him there. I'm glad we only have one kid! :)

Fay is gone for good. Sometimes it looked like she would never leave, criss-crossing across the state like she did. But now she is officially gone. But not to worry, we already have our next storm - "Gustav" is already making his way toward us. He is already a Hurricane and is expected to be a category 3 by the time he gets to the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday morning. At least we can never say that living in Florida is dull!

Tropical Storm "Fay" just won't go away. When she made landfall in the Keys and then again near Naples, it looked like she'll just cross over South Florida and lose power over land. But Fay doesn't play like other storms. She likes Florida. She gained strength over land, which is already really weird. Then she left Florida, made a left turn and came back over land. Unfortunatly we're now on the wrong side of the storm. We had no weather problems the first two times she came in to Florida, because she was to the south. This time we won't be so lucky. We'll wait and see what Fay will bring in the next few days - there is nothing we can do about it anyway.

Storms always make pretty clouds, and Fay is no exception.

We are waiting for Tropical Storm "Fay". According to the meteorologists with all their fancy technical equipment, Fay may or may not make landfall near Tampa. Either tomorrow night or maybe Wednesday. Fay may be a Tropical Storm or a Hurricane when she makes landfall. She may not make landfall at all. Or maybe she does, but further south. Hmmm, this is all very accurate information from the weather "experts". So, we'll wait. The first bands of thunder storms are just south of us and in the Keys. Today was the first day of school, but there is no school tomorrow. The second day of school and they already have their first Hurricane Day! Unless I know Fay comes near Tampa, I'll stay here. I hope she at least has the decency to come during the day. I hate it when Hurricanes come in at night. Oh well, nothing I can do about Fay. So, I went shopping today for the necesseties: cookies! It's the perfect Hurricane food. You don't even need a can opener! And if the **** hits the fan, I don't want cold ravioli from a can, I want cookies!

Also warten wir ab.

We're back in Tampa. The drive from Douglasville to Tampa was mostly uneventful. We had dinner with Drew at Longhorn's, then went home. I have to figure out how many miles I drove during this vacation, but it was a lot and I have had enough driving for a while.
