Orlando/Sunday

After check-in at 6:30am, Drew was getting ready for the ride. He is dressed for cold weather, but it was actually comfortable and warm. But he is always cold and put on extra clothing for the ride. Patrick and I were wearing T-Shirts!

Um 6:30 Uhr morgens waren wir alle am Start und Drew hat sich zur Tour angemeldet. Er ist immer kalt und hat sich auch fuer diese Tour warm angezogen. Es war aber wirklich angenehm und warm und Patrick und ich hatten T-Shirts an!

At the Start. Only the 100-Mile riders left at this time, and there were about 100 of them. All the other riders left later, depending on how many miles they were going to ride. All together they had about 750 riders for this Tour.

Beim Start. Nur die 100-Meilen Fahrer sind zu dieser Zeit abgefahren, und es waren ungefaehr 100 Fahrer. Die anderen Teilnehmer sind spaeter abgefahren, es wurde nach der Distanz gestaffelt. Insgesamt waren ca. 750 Teilnehmer bei dieser Tour dabei.

After Drew left, Patrick and I went to one of the Rest Stops to help out. The riders have several Rest Stops available during the ride where they can rest, have something to eat and drink and use the bathroom.

Drew couldn't get his blood sugar high enough for exercise and only rode 70 miles instead of the 100 miles he had planned on. We met him at the finish line, had lunch there and then drove back to Tampa.

Nachdem Drew abgefahren war, sind Patrick und ich zu einem der Rest Stops gefahren und haben dort geholfen. Die Teilnehmer haben mehrere Rest Stops zur Verfuegung wo sie sich ein wenig ausruhen koennen und dort werden auch Essen und Getraenke zur Verfuegung gestellt und es gibt Toiletten.

Drew konnte seinen Zucker nicht hoch genug bringen und ist deshalb nur 70 Meilen gefahren. Er war so gegen 14 Uhr fertig und wir haben ihn dann am Start/Finish getroffen, wo es Mittagessen gab. Danach sind wir dann wieder zurueck nach Tampa gefahren.

Orlando/Saturday

We went to Orlando for the weekend so Drew could ride in the Tour de Cure. We left Tampa on Saturday right after breakfast because registration ended at noon at a bike store in Orlando. After registration we checked in at the hotel, had lunch and then went to a shopping center near the University. As we were walking around we noticed a large gathering of everything Ford. That got Patrick interested, so we checked out all the cars, from Mustangs and Cobras to everything in between. There was a lot of testosterone in the air and I just stepped back and stayed out of the way! I found one car I liked:

Wir sind am Samstag nach Orlando gefahren, damit Drew an der Tour de Cure Radtour teilnehmen konnte. Wir sind gleich nach dem Fruehstueck abgefahren, denn er musste sich vor 12 Uhr in Orlando anmelden. Dann fuhren wir zum Hotel, haben zu Mittag gegessen und sind dann in ein EinkaufsZentrum gefahren, um dort den Nachmittag zu verbringen. Auf einem Teil des Parkplatzes war eine grosse Veranstaltung von Ford Besitzern. Patrick wollte sich das anschauen und wir haben dann alle Autos angeschaut, von Mustangs zu Cobras und alles was dazwischen war. Mir hat das Auto oben am Besten gefallen.

We went back to the Hotel right after dinner because we all had to get up early the next morning. And Drew had to ride his bike all day.

Wir sind frueh in's Hotel gegangen, denn wir mussten alle frueh aufstehen und Drew wollte ja den ganzen Tag Fahrrad fahren.

Patrick's Birthday

Patrick turned 18 years old on the 16th of February. It's weird, I just brought him home from the hospital after he was born and all of a sudden he's an adult. What happened? HOW did it happen? I think every parent asks that same question.
Patrick's Birthday fell on a holiday, so we all went out to breakfast in the morning. For dinner we went to "Boizao", an argentinian steak house. It was Patrick's choice, and we all enjoyed it.

Patrick wurde am 16. Februar 18 Jahre alt. Es ist sehr seltsam, es kommt mir so vor als haette ich ihn gerade erst nach der Geburt nach Hause gebracht. Und ploetzlich ist er 18 und erwachsen.
Patrick's Geburtstag war an einem Feiertag und morgens sind wir alle zusammen zum Fruehstuecken gegenagen. Abends waren wir dann ein einem argentinischen Steakhaus. Patrick hatte sich das Restaurant ausgesucht und es war sehr gut dort.
