Knitting at Sally's

Since Knit N Knibble is closed, we have to compensate with knitting at someone's house. The first knitting date was at Sally's house in Lakewood Ranch. We had fun, good food, and even better company.

Out with the old .....

Saturday April 19 - a dark day in history! Knit'n Knibble has closed it's doors.

Well, not closed forever of course, because that would not be a "dark day in history" but more along the lines of "the end of the world". I decided that I should spend all day there in honor of the occasion.

Sally and I on the couch. Sally has the first knit-in on Tuesday.

We stayed until the end and finally got kicked out at 6pm. But Caroline kicked us out with a smile - she is very excited! We all are. Towards the end of the day the staff packed up and by the time we left the class rooms were full of boxes. I thought I would be sad on the last day but we were actually all very happy. Big smiles all around!
Caroline - thank you for providing me and everyone else with our "happy place". We're all looking forward to the new store. Have an uneventful move and we'll see you at the other end!

New doors!

We finally have new doors! I only took pictures of the front door, because the back door is just a big sliding glass door.

Another week - another ride! This time it was the Tour de Cure ride in Venice. We didn't stay overnight but drove down from Tampa the morning before the ride. A cold front was coming through and it was sooo cold!

Patrick and I took one of the rest stops along the route. But because of the weather and especially the strong wind gusts, a lot of cyclist quit early. At one point it rained and I made the sandwiches in the car! It was so cold that day, I think the temperatures never went over 68 degress.
After the ride we ate at "Sharky's" and then walked out on the boardwalk. The waves were high and it was really windy. By that time the rain and most of the clouds had disapeared, but it was still windy.

Orlando/Sunday

After check-in at 6:30am, Drew was getting ready for the ride. He is dressed for cold weather, but it was actually comfortable and warm. But he is always cold and put on extra clothing for the ride. Patrick and I were wearing T-Shirts!

At the Start. Only the 100-Mile riders left at this time, and there were about 100 of them. All the other riders left later, depending on how many miles they were going to ride. All together they had about 750 riders for this Tour.

Beim Start.

After Drew left, Patrick and I went to one of the Rest Stops to help out. The riders have several Rest Stops available during the ride where they can rest, have something to eat and drink and use the bathroom.
Drew couldn't get his blood sugar high enough for exercise and only rode 70 miles instead of the 100 miles he had planned on. We met him at the finish line, had lunch there and then drove back to Tampa.

Orlando/Saturday

We went to Orlando for the weekend so Drew could ride in the Tour de Cure. We left Tampa on Saturday right after breakfast because registration ended at noon at a bike store in Orlando. After registration we checked in at the hotel, had lunch and then went to a shopping center near the University. As we were walking around we noticed a large gathering of everything Ford. That got Patrick interested, so we checked out all the cars, from Mustangs and Cobras to everything in between. There was a lot of testosterone in the air and I just stepped back and stayed out of the way! I found one car I liked:

Patrick picked his favorite:
Patrick gefiel dieses Auto sehr gut:

We went back to the Hotel right after dinner because we all had to get up early the next morning. And Drew had to ride his bike all day.

Patrick's Birthday

Patrick turned 18 years old on the 16th of February. It's weird, I just brought him home from the hospital after he was born and all of a sudden he's an adult. What happened? HOW did it happen? I think every parent asks that same question.
Patrick's Birthday fell on a holiday, so we all went out to breakfast in the morning. For dinner we went to "Boizao", an argentinian steak house. It was Patrick's choice, and we all enjoyed it.

Patrick wurde am 16. Februar 18 Jahre alt.
